Save Katsina Group frown at politicians engaging in early campaign ahead of 2023
2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS: A CALL TO POLITICAL LEADERS IN KATSINA STATE
Save Katsina Group, umbrella of some like-mind consortium of Nonprofit and Non-Partisan organizations based in Katsina state is highly disturbed by the untimely, unnecessary, unconstitutional and unhealthy masqueraded political campaign by some ambitious politicians in the state, two years to election date.
We are dismayed by toxic propaganda, blackmail, insults and derogatory remarks against individuals and parties propagated on various social media platforms by sponsored political jobbers, in the name of wooing voters.
This disorderly approach is in clear contravention of Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution, Electoral Act and code of conduct of political parties. We are of the view that the open display of naked lust for power by some politicians at this point in time will only overheat the polity, distract the leadership, confuse the citizens and undermine public peace and order.
We have further observed that the ongoing political campaign is adversely affecting the official duties of some public office holders, who are directly or indirectly sponsoring mushroom groups for the self-serving political project.
Consequently, governance is relegated to the background. It is uncharitable that instead of these people to lead by example, and focus on their primary assignment of serving the people, they are blinded by inordinate ambition at the detriment of the public interests.
On this note, Save Katsina Group is advising the power-seeking politicians, to organize special prayer sessions for the restoration of security and peace in Katsina state. They should compliment efforts of security agencies, government and all stakeholders in the ongoing search for permanent solution to insecurity in the state.
Hence, Save Katsina Group wishes to call on individual politicians to stop sponsoring politicking at this time. On their parts, political parties should call their members to order.
Meanwhile, the citizens of Katsina state should not be misled or hoodwinked by these power mongers who are displaying this high level of desperation for power. Political parties and politicians should be guided by the constitution, Electoral Act, code of conduct of political parties, common sense and patriotism.

Chairman, Save Katsina Group
