Immigration officers arrest 4 human traffickers, rescued 33 victims in Katsina

Nigeria Immigration Services(NIS) Katsina state command has rescued 33 victims of human trafficking and arrested 4 suspected human traffickers from 19th March 2021 to date.

The NIS comptroller Katsina state command, AR Mu’azu revealed this to newsmen while presenting 10 additional victims of human traffickers rescued in Katsina state.

According to him, the victims were intercepted along the Babban Mutum Axis while attempting to cross the border of the Niger Republic to Libya through illegal routes.

He further revealed that the victims when investigated are not in possession of any travel documents and no means of livelihood.

He said, “The suspected victims were misled by their traffickers (Syndicate group) whose business is to ferry persons across the border through illegal routes for their selfish gains”.

The victims are Austin Namey, aged 21yrs-old and indigene of Delta state, Otto Happiness, 26, from Edo state, Eyintuoluwa Adelola, 22yrs, Adams Zainab, 28yrs, Jamilu Zainab, 15yrs, Ogunnwa Yetunde, 31 yrs of Lagos state.

Others include Andrew Ozugbi, 46 from. Edo state, Okafor Blessing, 23yrs of Enugu state, Azizat Adam, 11 months from Lagos state, and Adesola Eyyinzuola, 23yrs old, an incident of Ekiti state.

He, however, revealed that the victims will be handed over to NAPTIP Liason Office Katsina for further investigations, counselling, training, rehabilitation, and possible prosecution.

He then lastly, thanked the Comptroller General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, for providing a conducive atmosphere in terms of welfare and training to counter the challenges.
