For The Record: Gov Masari promised LGA elections 3 months after S’Court judgment
The Katsina State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari said that his administration is ready to conduct Local Governments election in three months from any day the apex court deliver judgement on the case before it to that effect.
The Governor made this known during press briefing with journalists at the Muhammadu Buhari House on a penultimate Thursday evening in early January, 2020.
Then, the Governor also reiterated that base on their convictions, his administration followed the laid down laws in the dissolution of the elected local governments’ chairmen, their deputies, and councilors when they assumed office in 2015.
“Yes, we dissolved councils, but that was based on the laws we inherited from the previous administration. We couldn’t conduct elections because the PDP took us to court for obeying the law they enacted on the administration of LGs. As far as that law is concerned, we are right.
“The case is now before the Supreme Court and if it pronounces that we are right in what we did, certainly we will conduct LG elections within 3 months. We are not delaying nor shying away from them. The information being peddled round doesn’t affect this case before the apex court”, he said.
Recall that the Supreme Court today delivered ruling on the case in favor of the appellants.
