May 5, 2021 · Education

The Katsina State Government has flagged off the repatriation of more than 7,000 non-indigenous Almajiri pupils to their respective states. Officials said the exercise was aimed at decongesting Quranic schools and ensuring children receive proper welfare closer to their families. Vehicles were arranged to transport the pupils, while state governments were notified to prepare for their return. Authorities said the step was taken in consultation with religious leaders. Human rights groups urged careful handling to protect children’s dignity.
