Group to launch appeal fund to settle Katsina gov’t debt with NECO over students’ result

The Katsina State Chapter of The Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG has vowed to lunch a crowd funding campaign to gather money from the general public and pay the National Examination Council, NECO all their outstanding payment with the State government so that the result of the state’s students will be released.

The leader of the group in Katsina State, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanci made this pledge in an interview with Vision FM, Katsina.

Comrade Charanchi who stressed the importance of education in the overall socio-economic development and security of any society, said that any government that fails to ensure adequate education to its citizens has failed.

Charanci said the state government owes people explanation as to why the result is being withheld, stressing that it’s disheartening how the state government decided to keep mute at a time when students in the state were not certain of what the future holds.

“Any society that lacks qualitative education, should get ready for backwardness. No society can develop economically, socially without sound education. Therefore it’s embarrassing that it’s being rumoured that the result is being withheld because the state government fails to pay the remaining balance to NECO.

“What is more heartbreaking is that some students were sponsored by their parents but they still couldn’t get their result because they say under government schools. ”

According to him, the attitude has shown that the state government, contrary to its claim that education is part of its priorities, they have no sympathy for the common man.

He said an official letter was written to the state NECO office to that effect but has received any meaningful answer.

He also reminded the state government that JAMB and other higher Institutions in the country would not wait for it, lamenting that “it means most of our students will lose out in securing higher Institutions slot.”

Charanci said “we, as a group, will give ultimatum to the state government. If they fail to act, we’ll be left with no option than to kick start an appeal fund. An all inclusive appeal fund that will solicit for assistance from all and sundry including President Buhari.”
