Bill For Payment Of Development Levy, Tax Underway In Katsina
Katsina State government says, arrangement is underway to sponsor a bill for development levy and cattle tax at the State House of Assembly, aimed at improving the internally generated revenue, IGR and security.
The State Governor Rt Hon. Aminu Bello Masari made the disclosure Monday at a 2-day public sensitization of the reintroduction of development levy and cattle tax system in the State.
He recalled the development levy and cattle tax system which made it possible for government as well as traditional leaders to familiarize with their subjects within their domain which previously brought about stability in the state, hence the need for the reintroduction.
Governor Masari called on all and sundry to key into it for the development of the State.
Earlier on his part, Katsina State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, who double as the Committee Chairman, Hon. Faruq Lawal Jobe said, the reintroduction of development levy and cattle tax will in no small measure assist in improving security in the state.
Jobe said COVID-19 pandemic has caused untold hardship on the economic of countries of the world with no exception to Nigeria which has made it necessary for Katsina State government to as a matter of urgency, device its channels of generating revenue for development to thrive.
“We have gone all round through the 34 local government areas of the State to seek for people’s opinions on the reintroduction of the levy and the cattle tax, and we’ve gotten 80 percent affirmations of the total population of about 10 million citizens of this State”.
The sensitization committee was introduced in the late 2020, consist of stakeholders from all sectors across the State.
