Insecurity: European Union meets Gov Masari behind closed door

Governor Aminu Bello Masari has led the Governors of Sokoto and Zamfara states to the office of the European Union in Abuja.

At the EU office, the Governors held a closed door meeting with officials of the Mission in Nigeria led by the Head, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen.

Also at the meeting were representatives of some international communities in Abuja.

The meeting discussed the various challenges bedevilling the North-West region, most importantly that of security.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari stated this, when he spoke with newsmen after the meeting.

Governor Aminu Masari added that the meeting afforded them the opportunity to solicit for more support from the EU and other international communities.

The Governor assured that results of the meeting would soon be put to into action.

Also commenting, Governor of Sokoto state Alh Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and his Zamfara state Counterpart Alh Mohammed Bello Matawalle said the meeting afforded the international communities first hand information from the Governors on the issues discussed, with distinction on security of the entire region.

This they said, will enable the EU and the other parties to evaluate and select areas they will come in with their support and intervention.

Earlier, the head of the EU Mission in Nigeria Ambassador Ketil Karlsen told journalists that the EU and other international communities are so much determined to assist the North-West zone in creating the enabling environment and support to bring about the desired development.

The meeting was attended by the Secretary to the Government of the State Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Intergovernmental Relations and Liaison Services Alhaji Bishir Dayyabu Safana.
