Katsina United ends five-match winless run with a 2-0 win against Rangers

Nasarawa United yesterday returned to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table after their 3-0 victory over visitors Dakkada FC just as Katsina United ended a five-match winless run after they took down Rangers 2-0 in Katsina in one of the Match Day 16 fixtures.

In Lafia, Offor Ikenna got the first goal for Nasarawa United in the 7th minute from the penalty spot before Silas Nwankwo doubled the lead two minutes after.

Ikenna killed Dakkada’s hope of staging a comeback when he hit his brace in the 34th minute for the home side.

Elsewhere, reigning champions, Plateau United also dimmed Sunshine Stars of Akure 3-1 at the New Jos Stadium.

Oche Ochowechi put his side in the lead in the 7th minute while Ibrahim Mustapha made it 2-nil from the spot in the 24th minute.

Uche Onwuansanya made it three for Plateau United in the 33rd minute before Kehinde Adeyemi scored the consolatory goal for Sunshine Stars a minute before regulation time.

Rangers also missed the chance to go top of the table after they suffered a 0-2 loss at Katsina United.

Rasheed Ahmed put the host in the driving seat with the opening goal in the 16th minute.

Rangers fought back but their hope of getting at least a point from the game was dashed in the 83rd minute when diminutive Joseph Atule converted the spot kick that was awarded after Ebuka Anthony was adjudged to have hacked down Rasheed Ahmed in the box.

At the conclusion of hostilities, Nasarawa Utd, Kwara Utd, Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers are all on 27 points with only goal difference separating the teams from one another.
