The Nigerian Immigration Service Katsina state command says it has arrested two suspected human traffickers and rescued 18 suspected victims in Katsina.
This is contained in a press statement signed by the State Comptroller, NIS, Katsina state command, A. Mu’azu as seen by our correspondent.
According to him, the suspected traffickers along with victims were intercepted by the operatives at Charanchi Patrol base in Katsina.
He revealed that all the traffickers and their victims are Nigerians from Edo, Ogun, Lagos and Delta state comprising of 12 females and 8 males, all within the range of 3-45 years.
The comptroller further revealed that their mission is cross border through irregular routes, along the Jibia axis, to Agadez, Niger republic, and proceed to Libya for greener pastures.
He said “The suspected Traffickers and their victims were intercepted in an eating place where they converged in Charanchi town before proceeding to the intending destination.”
He, however, said in the process of interception, one of the suspected trafficker, Bala Mai Biri escaped and abandoned his vehicle Citreon 806 with registration number GWL 672 ZA KANO.
“Also, One of the suspected victim, Adewuyi Abosade Blessing possessed Nigeria Standard Passport Number, while the remaining 19 suspected victims did not have any travelling document” He added
He finally expressed his appreciation to the comptroller-General of the NIS, Muhammadu Babandede for providing the service with all necessary support for effective boarder management.
