“I will not be the only person chained before God on the day of judgment” – Gov Masari
The Executive Governor of Katsina State, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari has charged journalists working in the state to fear God in discharging their responsibilities.
Gov Masari further said that he will be not be the only person that will be chained before God on the day of judgment adding that every body with responsibility no matter how much small it is will be chained too.
Governor Masari said this while declaring open a one-day seminar on Enhancing Security through Journalism in Katsina.
The Seminar which held at the Conference Hall of Local Government Service Commission was attended by Journalists, Local Governments Information Officers and Social Media Practitioners from various parts of the State.
The Seminar was organized by the Office of Special Adviser on Security Matters in Collaboration with the State Council of the NUJ.
Governor Masari described the seminar as timely considering the contribution of journalists in addressing the current security challenges facing some parts of the State.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari described Media as a great tool of ensuring security in the society as such the Media should always remain cautious in its security reportage.
He also advocates the need for reporters to always fear Allah in their reportage.
The Governor charged them to always adhere strictly to professional ethics and expressed concern over the attitude of some social media users and online Media for spreading fake news.
In his remark, the Special Adviser on Security Matters Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina said the Media have a vital rose to play in the fight against the security challenges in the State, hence the State Government decided to organize the seminar to achieve the set objectives.
The Special Adviser commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for providing all the needed logistics for the seminar noting that the State Government will continue to partner with the Journalists in addressing the security threats in the State.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade Tukur Hassan Dan Ali informed the Governor that Journalist in the State are determined to assist his administration on its effort to address the security challenges facing some parts of the State.
