Katsina court locked up 2 suspected over bandits’ informants

Two men namely Sa’adu Haruna and Musa Ibrahim have been remanded in a correctional facility by a Katsina senior Magistrate Court until April 1, 2021, over their alleged participation in a recent bandits’ attack in Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State where three men were killed and seven others abducted.

The duo who are 40 years old each are residents of Dantankari village, Dandume Local Government Area of the state.

The police told the court that on December 25, 2020, bandits attacked Dantankari village, killing three people namely Abdulmutallib Ibrahim, Muhammadu Isyaku and Sani Ibrahim.

The bandits also reportedly kidnapped seven victims namely Abdullahi Hayatu, Sani Iliya, Yunusa Soja, Alhaji Dahiru Mahangi, Dan Bayero, Hajizu Nasir and Umar Shaaibu, who were still being held in their captivity.

The police revealed that in the course of investigation on the incident by the police, Haruna and Ibrahim were arrested in connection with the case because the duo were overheard discussing the attack even before the village was attacked.

The suspects were also alleged to have mentioned those to be kidnapped in the attack during their discussion.

They both allegedly confessed to the police during an investigation of having prior knowledge of the attack.

The police have slammed the duo with offences of criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping and belonging to the gang of brigandage.

The police told the court that the offences were contrary to sections 59,189,243, (2) and 280 punishable under section 204 of Katsina state penal code law, 2019.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Lawal Bello told the court that investigation was still in progress on the case. He sought for another date which the case could come up for mention before the court.

The presiding senior magistrate, Hajiya Fadile Dikko granted the request and adjourned the case till April 1, 2021, for mention.

She directed that Haruna and Ibrahim be remanded at the Katsina correctional centre till then.
