Gov Masari inspects N1.9bn Mashigi dam project
The Katsina State Governor, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari has on Wednesday paid an inspection visit to the Mashigi Dam and the water Treatment Plant to assess the rehabilitation and expansion work so far done.
During the visit, the Governor said the Katsina State government is looking at the possibility of construction of additional water treatment plant to increase the capacity of the dam in order to increase its scope to include Kankara Local Government in addition to the in Malumfashi Local Government Area.
Governor Masari explained that through the government’s effort, it would also increase the supply of water in Malumfashi town and its environs.
The Governor pointed out that the work for the construction of the additional water treatment plant would commence before the end of 2021.
He added that Government has restored the existing capacity of the Dam to 4.5 million litres per day.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari noted that efforts will be made to increase the daily supply of the water to nine million litres.
In a remark the Commissioner of water resources Alhaji Musa Adamu Funtua explained that the rehabilitation and expansion project was awarded in 2017 at the cost of one billion four hundred and seventy two million naira to be completed in 18 months period.
The Commissioner revealed that the later the contract was revised to one billion nine hundred and fourty nine million naira due to some additional work included in the initial contract awarded.
He said with the current rehabilitation and expansion work so far done state government has restored the existing capacity of the dam to 4.5 million litres per day.
