Garba Shehu, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari in an interview with reporters claimed that only 10 schoolboys are now in captivity in the hands of the gunmen.

There are conflicting reports on the exact figures of schoolboys abducted by Gunmen at Government Science Secondary School Kankara. Katsina Post learnt

Bokoharam, in an audio message, has claimed responsibility for the abduction of hundreds of schoolboys.

However, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, has disagreed with Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, over the number of boys abducted from Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

Garba Shehu in an interview with reporters claimed that only 10 schoolboys are now in captivity in the hands of the gunmen.

Meanwhile, Masari, on Sunday, while briefing a Federal Government delegation led by Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Magashi (retd.), said, the school has the population of 839 students, they are yet to account for 333 students after the attack. It means according to the state Government 333 students were missing.

Similarly, one of the kidnapped boys who lucky enough happened to escaped told reporters they were 520 when counted by their abductors.

Katsina Post correspondent, who was at the school after the attack gathered that at the time of the incident, the school had 1,074 students in both its Junior and Senior Secondary sections in session.

Daily Trust also gathered that 270 students were rescued from the school on the night of the attack and with the number of those who returned from the bush the following night or those who were reported to have gone home by their parents, the number of those found rose to 406 as on Sunday morning.

To add to the conflicting figures, daily trust findings revealed that 668 students are still missing, as shown by the school register.
