‘Katsina gov’t ready for the commencement of Medicine program at UMYUK’
Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari has said that the state govt is making necessary contacts with the federal ministry of health seeking the release of Federal Medical center Katsina To be converted as teaching hospital.
This he said was to allow Umaru Musa yaradua university Katsina to commence medicine program at the institution. The Governor hinted this while responding to request for the construction of a hospital at the Fed university Dutsin-ma to serve as a teaching hospital by the pro Chancellor of the University during a courtesy call.
According to him delays in releasing the FMC Katsina is delaying the commencement of the program in the university for about four years.
Already he said infrastructure had been put in placed with teaching staff employed, adding that an approval in principle of course had been made. He said if the federal govt released the medical center would adequate be used by the two universities as teaching hospital.
He therefore urged the Governing council of the Federal University to join hand; with that of Umaru Musa yaradua university in pursuading the federal govt to release the medical center for conversion as a teaching hospital.
While congratulating the leadership of the institution for summounting problems inherited, the governor enjoined them to pay more attention towards academic excellence.
Earlier, the pro Chancellor & chairman governing council of the Federal university Dutsinma Uba Ahmed Nana told the governor that the university is planning to commence three new courses on Medicine, Engineering and Law.
He however said part of the condition for operation of Medical program to produce Medica doctors is the establishment of a teaching hospital & appealed to the state Govt to establish a hospital in the institution. Uba Ahmed Nana said if established the hospital would be converted as a teaching hospital.
He however appreciated the state govt for the various projects executed in the institution& prayed for sustaining the tempo Govt house correspondent reports that the pro Chancellor was in company of the Vice Chancellor of the University & some members of the Governing council.
