Katsina doctors decried non payment of 6 months salary

A group of young doctors who recently completed their national youth service (NYSC) and reported back to Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB) as Medical Officers since March 2020 have decried “lack of salary upgrade, unexplained and illegal deductions, removal of call duty allowances and occasional non-payment of even the basic salaries at all” by the Katsina State government.

This is contained in a letter of complaint by the group sent to Katsina Post titled: “Non Payment of Our Entitlements; A Call to Chary”.

Below is the letter of complaint unedited:

– Non Payment of Our Entitlements; A Call to Chary

With due respect, we humbly write on the above subject matter, to retell our lack of salary upgrade, unexplained and illegal deductions, removal of call duty allowances and occasional non-payment of even the basic salaries at all. We’d resorted to go epistolary (though not involving the media yet) after having watched all our bawls fall behind deaf ears.

With charged zeal, sprouting patriotisms and ardent love for the development of our dear state especially in the health sector, that we all came back home to fulfill our portion of the bond agreement we signed back then in school a few years ago, as oppose to many who made use of the political influence they had to clout away.

Majority of us have completed our national youth service (NYSC) , reported back to Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB) as Medical Officers, received our notifications of upgrade, and posted to various hospitals across the state since early March 2020, but yet to receive any salary upgrade, call ,rural posting allowance etc to at least incentivize our zeal.

Individually, we’ve had sessions and audience to report the issues with our various Hospital Directors, collectively with the General Manager and Director Medical Services, Hospital Services Management Board (HSMB) the chairman National Association of Government General Medical and Dental Practitioners ( NAGGMDP), the chairman Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) and the Accountant General (AG) and some of his tributaries, a few of the elders statesmen and medical elders (through the out gone NMA chairman) etc, but nothing tangible to hold on to but endless lackadaisical assurances and shots to the dark.

To add salt to our collective injuries, some of the medical elders whose interventions we sought to ameliorate these abnormalities in this most desolated time, casually dismissed our plights; that they are infantile and greedy. Some even asserted that the state is refusing to cajole our cries because the twenty few of us are so negligible for our impact to be felt in absentia. How laughable!

Now, most of us are married with kids, we run on negative account balances due mainly to the humongous responsibilities imposed on us by family, parents, relatives, and even the cost of practicing in towns and villages where one is known, we occasionally find it hard to transport ourselves to our places of work. Most recently, no one now believes that you are not been paid for up to six months (6months). The government can’t be thus heartless they say.
In conclusions, we are a synapse of young agile and law abiding doctors, we do not pray to have these burning zeals in us quenched, we do not want our loyalty and ardent love for our dear state slackened by defying us of our rights and privileges, we want our arrears, and salary issues resolved on or before end of this month.

Yours Faithfully
