Katsina Speaker bags international Human Rights Awards
Chief Judge of Katsina State Justice Musa Abubakar and House of Assembly Speaker Tasiu Maigari have been appointed into the Advisory Council for the establishment of the African Human Rights Courts and the award of Joseph Garba Medal of Honour for Diplomatic Soldiering, the Nation reports.
Team Leader of the delegation of International Human Rights Commission, African Regional Headquarters, Nairobi, Kenya Dr Tiv Mulum Ahaure made this known on Thursday when he led the delegation to the Speaker.
Ahaure said they were in the state for a cognitive meeting and interaction with relevant stakeholders in Katsina and to discuss with relevant Civil Society Groups on the challenges facing the state.
“The appointment of the CJ into the Advisory Council is to fast track the development of a blueprint for the establishment of African Human Rights Court for 25 countries and the drawing up of a treaty to be signed in Katsina State”.
‘‘We have noted with concern the current challenges facing the state, including banditry and other related crimes – we are more concerned about addressing future occurrences than repeated occurrences”.
