Katsina assembly vows to investigate Mahdi’s allegations with no fear or favor
The Katsina State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions has promised to investigate the allegations of financial misappropriations leveled against the Katsina State government by Alhaji Mahdi Shehu with no fear or favor.
This promise was made by the Chairman of the committee, Hon Abduljalal Haruna Runka during the committee’s interaction with the Coalition of Northern Groups, CNG on Monday.
Recall that CNG had earlier sent a petition to the Katsina State House of Assembly calling on them to investigate the weighty allegations of financial misappropriations against the Katsina State government by the Kaduna born business mogul to the tune of N52.6bn.
“We at House of Assembly have the constitutional mandate to investigate the executive arm of government’s expenditure and we have already began thorough investigation on the allegations.
“Since when we heard the series of allegations, it had been our topic of discussion even among colleagues because we are all disturbed.
“if you look at the constitution of the committee, you will see that the insecurity in the state is at our door step and we were all affected by it at one time or another,” Hon Runka said.
Other committee members that contributed were members representing Kusada, Dutsin-ma, Kankara, Rimi, Jibia, Batsari and Jibia. They all promised to investigate the matter, invite all the parties involved and make their findings public.
Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the group, CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi said they felt mandated to write to the house and demand for thorough investigation of the allegations because of their firm belief that a thorough work will be done and the truth will be revealed.
He therefore called on the house to expedite the process of the investigation and make their findings public.
