Police arrest Katsina teacher for faking own kidnap, extorting ransom from family 

Police operatives in Katsina has succeeded in arresting one Umar Bala, 40 years of age and resident of Kukar Gesa Quarters, Katsina for threatening his neighbour Bashir Aliyu to pay him sum of five million (N5,000,000:00K) or risk being kidnapped or any member of his family.

During his interrogation, Mr Umar Bala was also found to have faked his own kidnap sometimes in 2016 forcing his relatives to pay him ransom.

Katsina Post investigation revealed that Umar Bala is a teacher in Katsina State government civil service.

Below is the police press release on the case:

“On 3/02/2020 at about 10:00hrs, acting on intelligence report, O/C SARS and team arrested one Umar Bala, m, aged 40yrs of Kukar Gesa Quarters, Katsina a notorious kidnapper who specializes in sending text messages to unsuspecting members of the public to pay money or risk being kidnapped.

“Nemesis caught up with the suspect when he sent text message to one Bashir Aliyu, m, a staff of Nigeria Customs Service, Katsina state, his neighbour to pay the sum of five million (N5,000,000:00K) or risk being kidnapped or any member of his family.

“In the course of investigation ten different SIM Cards were recovered in his possession.

“Evidence had it that sometimes last year the suspect also masterminded his own kidnapping forcing members of his family to pay ransom of four hundred thousand to his fake kidnappers. Suspect confessed to the commission of the offence.”
