Overview: Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita Presides over Heads of Education MDA’s Meeting
Distinguished Senator Ahmad Babba kaita, at the commencement of the meeting welcome all members of the committee and head of all the MDA’s, adding that he was pleased to host them all.
Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita told the gathering that the rational behind the meeting was to hear from them the details of budgetary allocation and expenditure in their respective MDAs and to listen to their challenges as well as their yearning and aspirations regarding the sector with a view to achieving a better result.
According to Senator Kaita, “We in the nineth Senate are working tirelessly to come up with policy documents that would address some of the challenges bedeviling the sector in a bid to meet up the yearning and aspiration of majority of Nigerians”.
On his part, the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu said the 2020 budgetary allocation for the education sector is meager.
The minister explained that paucity of funds, Poor IGR, Inadequate budgetary allocation has continued to pose serious challenge to the growth of the education sector.
For Senator Sam Egwu representing Ebonyi North the paltry sum being appropriated and released to the education sector is worrisome. He gave an assurance that the nineth senate will come to the aid of the sector through increase budgetary allocation.
Also, Senator Abdullahi Adamu representing Nasarawa West, maintained that the Poor budgetary allocation to the education sector was contributing to the Poor quality of education in the Country. According to him, “The Committee will convene a special meeting to discuss the problem with the aim of providing lasting solution”.
The highpoint of the meeting was FG’s approval for the establishment of two new Federal Universities; which are the Federal University of Health Benue and the Federal University of Agriculture Kebbi and two more Federal Polytechnics: Federal Polytechnic Daura, in Katsina State and Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo in Gombe State.
