Police injured, 36 Shi’ates arrested as Ashura procession turn violent in Katsina
No fewer than 36 Shi’ates were arrested by the police operatives in Katsina today during the religious sect’s Ashura procession in Katsina, Dutsin-Ma and Malumfashi Local government areas.
This is contained in a statement signed by the police public relations officer, SP Gambo Isa and made available to newsmen including Katsina Post.
According to the statement, one Police officer was “seriously injured by the group at Malumfashi LGA”.
The statement reads in part: “In compliance with the Federal Government directives on the proscription of Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), the Katsina state police command has put in place stringent security measures to deal decisively with the defiant members of the proscribed group.
“The Command will not fold it’s arms and watch under it’s nose the violent protests being carried out by the group with impunity infringing on the rights of other citizens of the state.
“Consequently, the Command has succeeded in arresting 36 members of the proscribed Elzakzaki led IMN embarking on protest in furtherance of Terrorism.
“One Police officer was seriously injured by the group at Malumfashi LGA.
” Suspects will be arraigned in court immediately investigation is completed. Investigation is ongoing please.”
