The newly sworn-in senators from Katsina and Bauchi states, Ahmed Babba Kaita and Lawal Yahaya Gumau, have been appointed to chair different committees.
Senate President Bukola Saraki, who announced this yesterday at plenary, said Kaita is now the chairman of the committee on capital market, while Gumau heads the committee on poverty alleviation.
Saraki also announced that the two senators were appointed to serve as members of about five other committees.
Kaita replaced late Mustapha Bukar (Katsina, North), while Gumau replaced late Ali Wakili (Bauchi, South). They were sworn in on Wednesday last week.
They took over the committees’ chairmanship from Bukar and Wakili. While the late Katsina senator headed the capital market committee, the late Ali Wakili chaired the poverty alleviation committee of the Senate.
