Empowernment: Katsina gov’t distributes 2000 goats to women in Kaita L.G area
Not fewer than 1000 women from three senatorial zones were empowered with a pair of goats on Sunday by Katsina state government in Kaita local government area.
Speaking while distributing the goats, The state commissioner of women affairs, Dr. Badiyya Hassan Mashi said the gesture is part of Governor Masari’s effort of alleviating the plights of the less privilege in the state.
According to her, the goats were given free of charge for the betterment of the beneficiaries urging them not to sell them in other to achieve the set objectives.
She described gender discrimination, gender based violence and lack of financial capacity, as challenges bedevilling women in participating into politics.
Dr. Badiyya called on women in the state to actively participate in the next year’s elections adding that Islam has not forbid women to participate in politics.
“Women should know that Islam as a religion is not a barrier to women participation in politics. So women who hide under Islam to avoid political activities should desist from such,” she said.
She called relavant bodies to help in sensitizing, capacity building to enhance women’s skills and knowledge on how to participate in political activities.
