Political Science Students of Al-Qalam University, Katsina emerged overall champion in this year’s Inter University debate organized by the World Trade Organisation (WTO) Mock Summit and Research Group in collaboration with the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Bayero University, Kano.

The students beat their colleagues from Kaduna State University (KASU), Umar Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina (UMYU) and the host Bayero University Kano.
The four universities debated on the topic ‘Neo-Liberisation Under Siege – Globalisation or Re-nationalisation” at the end of which Al-Qalam University scored 77 points to take the first position and the overall trophy.
Presenting the trophy to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu Garki Ado on Tuesday 26th July 2017, the Head of Department, Political Science of the University, Sani Garba Dankama explained that this year’s competition was more challenging because the students went as defending champions having won the same trophy last year on the topic’ Climate Change as a pure natural phenomenon”
Acknowledging the award, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ado congratulated the students for the wonderful performance noting that the performance is an indication of the quality of learning taking place in the university.

‘To be in the first position among your colleagues who competed from other universities is not just an indication of the quality of staff and the students in our university but also a confirmation that as a management we are pursuing the vision and mission set for the university by its founding fathers.’
The students who represented the University in the debate are Aliyu Kabir Ma’aji, Aliyu Garba, Nafi’u Suleman and Aliyu Aliyu Kurfi.
Bayero University Kano won the second position.
