EDITORIAL: Improving eduction system in Northern Nigeria – Ja Muje as a driving force

Towards the end of last month, Katsina Post as a media platform in Katsina got an invitation to attend the first edition of ’round table’ discussion on how to improve eduction system in Northern Nigeria organised by Ja Muje initiative project.

According to their website, Ja Muje is an evidence based, solution driven initiative aimed at the  key factors affecting development in Northern Nigeria. With a focus on citizen led programs, Ja Muje will work on the ground with the most affected states in the region in synergizing efforts to create short term capacity building programs, and long term road maps that will consolidate efforts already in place, and also get the people to shape their communities towards sustainable development.

Now, the fact that education was chose as the first issue to be discussed by the initiative speaks a lot as it is the bedrock of any society development. It is believed that no society will flourish above the level of its education.

The first edition of the round table held on the 25th of February, 2017 in the city of Kano and various organisations from 12 different Northern States grace the discussion where minds were robbed and ideas fashioned out on the best ways to improve eduction in the North.

After the round table discussion, the various states representatives were charged to develop a workable action plans that they believe will help immensely towards the development of eduction in their residing states.

According to the Ja Muje team: ” Subsequent editions of Ja Muje will be held on quarterly basis, rotating venues within the Northern region of Nigeria.”

At Katsina Post, we believe initiatives like this is what we need in the North where like minded individuals and organisations -be it non-governmental of governmental- will sit and discuss prominent problems affecting the region with the aim of fashioning out workable ways that will take us out of it.

We will also advise that the next Round table discussion be held in Katsina -the Home of Heritage and Hospitality.
