Katsina United were forced to a 1-1 draw by the struggling Akwa United in continuation of the NPFL yesterday, sunday 29th of January, 2017 at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
The home fans felt it was two dropped points by their darling team.
‘The Changi Boys’ now have seven points from five matches, while Akwa United have three points.
The home team dominated play at the start, but failed to put away the several chances they carved.
However, former Nigeria youth international Alhassan Ibrahim ‘Muazam’ put Akwa United ahead two minutes from half time when he struck from close range with an assist by Christian Pyagbara.
It was on account of a slip by Katsina defender Ado Ali.
Katsina United responded swiftly two minutes after the restart when substitute Obinna Eleje powered home a header off a corner by Tasiu Lawal.
The home team then had their visitors on the back foot for most of the second half.
They threatened again through Eleje, Ibrahim Suleman and the lively Tasiu Lawal, but goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode rose to the occasion to ensure he did not concede another goal.
Such was the pressure against Akwa United that coach.
Abdu Maikaba had to bring on defender Samiu Liadi for an attacking player to shore up the defence.
Pyagbara could have restored the lead for Akwa United on 70 minutes, but he wasted a glorious chance.
