CBN, entrepreneurial centre to train 500 women in Katsina State

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN),  in partnership with North-west Entrepreneurship Centre, Kano, will train 500 women in Katsina State.

Gov. Aminu Masari announced this at the launch of the programme on Tuesday in Katsina, noting that the participants hailed from the 34 local government areas.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa,  Masari said the programme was in line with the present administration’s efforts at improving women’s living  standard.

“It is the desire of the administration to empower and uplift women, create enabling environment economically and otherwise for business to grow and thrive in the midst of the current recession,’’ he said.

He said the participants were expected to be self-reliant, noting that the programme was aimed at eradicating  poverty and reducing  unemployment.

The programme Coordinator, Mr Samuel Adebayo, said that CBN had  earmarked N220 billion for the development of Small and Medium Enterprises  in the country.

Adebayo explained that 60 per cent of the fund was set aside for women in the 36 states, adding that  the trainees would  access the facilities  and become employers of labour.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Badiyya Hassan, said that the training would take place for two weeks in the three senatorial zones of the state.

She commended the current government for initiating series of programmes aimed at improving women’s living standard.
