OPEN LETTER TO GOV MASARI: AFTER 1YEAR IN OFFICE, WHERE DOES THE RESTORATION AGENDA LIES! By U. A. Mashi
I must start by congratulating you for spending one querter of your four years tenure in office. Now, you spent a year and three more years to come in your tenure. It is indeed well deserved victory after a fiercely contested 2015 polls. I choosed to write through this medium because I do not have any other alternative way to share my opinion with good people of katsina state better than it. I know this would be the best possible way of reaching you to send my message to you.
Sir, as a matter of fact, the jubilations that cracked katsina state after INEC announcement that you are the newly elected governor of katsina state shows alot of faith, trust, hope and belief katsinawa (I not excluded) have in your type of leadership.
Sir, you would believe with me that you truely came with tones of promises to deliver to rescue the good people of katsina state and put a lasting smiles on their faces. Your campaign slogan of RESTORATION AGENDA clearly testifies this as you promised to:
Restore the glory of katsina state which you claimed is lost by 16years of PDP misruled in the state. You indeed throughout your campaign tour promises to revive Education, Health and Agricultural sectors. The trio are the main yardstick for economic development of any society. In Education sector, you promised a massive recruitment of teachers, renovation of schools and reconstruction of some of the dilapidated buildings, provision of teaching/learning materials and the welfare of the teachers. You also promises to brings any possible way to attract the public so as to increase the enrolment in our primary schools. (Sir, permit me to remind you what you promised to the katsina state headteachers during your meeting with them at karkanda stadia, after you recieved report on Education by Badamasi Lawal Charanci, Ph D.) Sir, I will use this medium to analyze your Administration so far in this sector.
The Education sector is been abated daily with most schools unable to provide quality Education as expected. This is due to the inadequate teaching materials, lack of enough and qualified teachers (even the teachers that were employed as casual staff are not paid for a good three months). The ever dilapidated Buildings in some of the schools are still there, not talk of the struggling teachers who owed your Administration series of promotion. Moreover, as far as I know and a conscious citizen like you, you promised to ensure your children and that of your government officials would be sent to public schools. Now, I am not clear, looking back over the last 12 months that the order of urgency in Education sector is in the false guise of being part of your RESTORATION AGENDA.
My second reflection relates to the Health sector where you promises to revive and that you, your family and that of your government officials would patronize public hospitals when elected. Sir, now you pocketed one year in office in a four years tenure. But still there are indications that this sector is faced with two technical fallacies which may have affected the good people of katsina state. The first is lack of health personnel which may aggrevate the healthcare for children, women and the masses. In this area, you promises to recruit more staff to meet the minimal level of healthcare in the state. But, until now the recruitment is hung to no aveil.
The second fallacy is however, the provision of health fercilities and equipment, though, interestingly your Administration is rehabilitating and upgrading the three general hospitals in the state( katsina, Daura and Funtua), this I know remains a commendable effort by your Administration. Still sir, poor physical infrastructure and lack of access to healthcare services in most of our villages where large sections of our population live patiently waiting your change mantra is a thing of concern. In addition to that, the distinct factor of lack of working equipment in most of our health fercilities are still unchanged.
Sir, as a strong believer of the change mantra, I shall not commend the effort made in Agriculture, knowingly that, it is a main yardstick of katsina state economy. Most people in katsina state are farmers and you promised to modernize the sector to meet the need of food security and reduce the unemployment rate in the state. Until now, nothing tengible in the sector dispite most farmers are now returned back to their farms for this year’s rainy season farming.
Your Excellency sir, with all these adaptations, I shall expect a successful outcomes with great confidence in your next three years. By all means, you must not forget the people you met during your campaign rallies. If you fail them, they would lost faith, not only on you but on your type of leadership. And their belief and hope that the lost glory of katsina state would be revived by your Administration would be over.
Sir, I look forward to write again in a satisfactory mood when next I put my pen on another paper.
GOD BLESS KATSINA STATE !!!
Your obedient, with great respect.
UMAR ABDULLAHI MASHI
