Katsina APC Elects LGs officials by consensus
Just like the party did in its July ward congresses in the state, the All Progressives Congress in Katsina State, on Saturday, elected its 918 officers for all the 34 local government areas of the state, using consensus method, punchng.com reports.
The elected party men were made up of 23 officers and four ex officio members per council.
The exercise was generally peaceful, while the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Jubril Zarewa, led the Independent National Electoral Commission team to observe the congresses in all the 34 councils.
The Katsina REC told newsmen in Batagarawa that, “The exercise is purely an internal matter and we are here to observe how it goes. We are here on observer status. We are not supposed to interfere.”
It was observed that the exercise began in most of designated centres few minutes after 11 a.m and did not last up to one hour.
Majority of the party men and delegates were also observed to have arrived the centres as early as 9 a.m.
A joint patrol of security operatives, including troops and the police who were in pick up vans and on motorcycles, were also seen patrolling the communities where the congresses were held.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for works, Tasiu Dandagoro; and a Federal House of Representatives member representing Batagarawa/Rimi/Charanchi Constituency, Hamza Batagarawa, maintained that the consensus method adopted by the party for the congresses would further promote unity among members.
Dandagoro declared, “There is no method adopted for an election that some people would not talk. But, I believe that the consensus will further unify party members and ensure cohesion in the party.”
Batagarawa also said, “Democracy is all about how you play the game to ensure unity in the party. Our party elders set up guidelines for the congresses and adopts the consensus method to ensure cordial relationship and unity among party members.
“I thank God that today’s congresses were hitch-free and I am happy to be part of the exercise.”
The APC in Katsina State on July 31, 2021 held its ward congresses using consensus method.
