Police arrest fake ‘Prison Officer’ in Katsina
The Katsina State Police Command on Friday paraded a 32-year-old alleged ex-convict, Shamsu Sani, for using the uniform of the Nigerian Correctional Service to commit fresh crimes.
Police described Sani of Yammama Quarters, Katsina, as a notorious criminal who specialises in house breaking and theft of motorcycles.
The command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, said Sani recently completed serving a jail term before he was rearrested in Kankara on August 17, 2021, with a stolen Daylong motorcycle.
Isah said, “On 17/08/2021 at about 1330hrs, based on a tip off, the command succeeded in arresting one Shamsu Sani, ‘M’, aged 32yrs of Yammawa Quarters, Katsina, an ex-convict, a notorious thief, who specialises in house breaking and theft of motorcycles.
“Nemesis caught up with the suspect when he was arrested wearing the Nigerian Correctional Service uniform and impersonating the agency, with a suspected stolen motorcycle, Day-long, red in colour, with reg. No. KTN 266 UX at Kankia LGA belonging to one Lawal Musa, ‘M’, of Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Katsina.
“In the course of investigation, two suspected receivers were also arrested and five motorcycles reasonably suspected to be stolen were recovered in their possession. Investigation is ongoing.”
