Mahadi’s bench warrant stands as court reject prayer
Mahdi Shehu VS Katsina SGS: High Court Orders Stoppage Of Trial By Shari’a Court
The Katsina State High Court in its appellate judgment has ordered the stoppage of the continuation of proceedings of the criminal suit before the State’s Upper Shari’a Court II filed by Katsina State Secretary to the Government of the State, Alhaji Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa against Katsina born, Kaduna based businessman and self acclaimed whistleblower, Alhaji Mahdi Shehu over defamation of character.
The judgement was delivered by Justice Bawale on Monday in Katsina behalf of the Chairman of the Dutsin-ma Appeals, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar and Justice Ashiru Sani.
Justice Bawale also, in his judgment, rejected the first prayer of the appellant, Mahdi Shehu, to nullify the proceedings of the Upper Shari’a Court 2 which issued a bench warrant against him for his disrespect to its sermons.
Katsina Post also learnt that the judge fixed Monday, 5th July 2021 for hearing of the appeal at Dutsin-ma.
Recall that Mahadi Shehu ran to the High Court to avoid the bench warrant issued against him as well as truncate the proceedings of the Upper Shari’a Court where he was being charged for character assassination and defamation filed by Mustapha Inuwa, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
