Katsina students excel at National Principals Cup Competition

Katsina State Students have excelled at the just concluded first edition of National Principals Cup Competition.

The competition was introduced by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports with the aim of promoting Secondary Schools sports from the grassroots.

The competition was in three (3) categories which includes, athletics, table -tennis and soccer whereby the 36 States of the federation including the FCT participated.

The Competition started with inter- state competitions which Government Day Secondary School K/Yandaka, Government Day Secondary School Kambarawa, Government Day Pilot Secondary School Daura and Government Day Yar’ laraba Malumfashi competed at the State levels.

Government Day secondary school Kofar Yandaka participated in athletes and table-tennis while Government Day Secondary School Yar’ laraba competed in soccer.

These two Schools qualified and represented Katsina State at the Northwest zone comprising seven States (7) at the level of which Katsina State won a total of five Gold Medals 3 in table-tennis in male category while the other 2 won in Athletics which qualified these Students to represent the Northwest zone in Abuja.

However, at the National finals Abdulwaheed Salisu from Government Day Secondary School Kofar Yandaka won silver medal and will now be in Abuja for National camping in discuss games.

The Honourable Commissioner for Education Associate Professor Badamasi Lawal thanked Katsina State Governor Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari (CFR) for all support towards the development of Education in the State and also eulogies the efforts of the participants in making the State proud at the National competition.

The Commissioner also stressed the importance of extra-curricular activities in the socioeconomics development of human societies.

The Commissioner further, called on parents to always send their children to Schools as Government is committing a lot of resources in Education.

He also called on Students to read hard and be at Schools at least 30 minutes before time to allow all the proper arrangements take place before the actual time in the upcoming qualifying Examination scheduled to commence on tomorrow 7th April, 2021.

Earlier, the Assistant Director Sports of the Ministry Abdu Abdullahi Charanci while handing over the medals thanked the Ministry for all the supports, advice and encouragement giving to ensure sports development in the schools.
