Youth Group, journalists moves to fight deforestation in Katsina

Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation in collaboration with Katsina State Radio and the NUJ Chapel of the station, planted varieties of seedlings.

During the plantation exercise, the chief environmental officer Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation Mallam Lawal Usman Murnai Spoke extensively on the activities of the NGO to include planting and distribution of seedlings free of charge across the state as well as organising carrier talk training to pupil and student In addition to reviving and establishing the young foresters club in the schools.

Mallam Lawal Usman Murnai said, the KYSAD provided Mango tree seedlings, Paw-paw, Dates, Olive seedlings, Ruman and Guava seedlings while the NUJ Katsina State Radio Chapel supplied Green and Yellow Bush flowers and Akalpa flower.

The General Manager Katsina State Radio Alhaji Sani Bala Kabomo who spoke through the Director News and Current Affairs of the station Alhaji Hassan Bako, described the plantation of the trees considering the climate change badebiling the world.

Alhaji Sani Bala Kabomo who provide and cleared the site to serve as a garden for the entire staff, assured to nurture the seedlings to maturity.

In his remarks, the Katsina State Program Officer IFAD CASP Alhaji Musa Hassan applauded the foresight of NUJ Katsina State Radio Chapel and Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation for complimenting government effort towards ensuring habitable environment.

Alhaji Musa Hassan who decried over the indiscriminate fallen down of trees, stressed the important of trees to the biodiversity.

He added that, the global world facing ozon layer depletion which leads to climate change, global warming, decrease in rainfall, erosion, desertification, and poor performance of farm produce.

The Katsina State Program Officer IFAD CASP, appealed to people to adopt one man plant one tree policy for curving the environment related problems.

In a welcome address, the chairman state Nigeria Union of Journalists Katsina State Radio Chapel Khalid Alhafiz Bakori said, the exercise is a collaborative effort between NUJ Katsina State Radio Chapel, the management of the station and Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation to landscape the NUJ state Radio Chapel garden.

The state NUJ Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists Alhaji Tukur Dan Ali, praised the NUJ Katsina State Radio Chapel and Katsina Youth Support Against Deforestation for the gesture and expressed the determination of the state NUJ for establishing the NUJ recreational garden at council headquarter.

Those who participated in the plantation exercise are, the General Manager NTA Katsina Umar Isah Bununu, the representative of the General Manager Radio Nigeria Companion FM. Katsina, and the former state NUJ chairman Mansur Lawal Kaware.

Others are NUJ Chairmen chapels Katsina State Television, Companion FM Katsina, NTA Katsina, and RATTAWU state chairman Comrade Buhari Ibrahim Rafukka and the representative of Kanwan Katsina District Head of Kankara as well as the chairman Hamada garden Ingawa among others.
