Katsina Spent over N3bn on running gov’t monthly – Official

The Katsina State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mr. Faruk Lawal Jobe said that the state government spent over N3bn – coinciding with over half of the state monthly income in settling salary and pension of the state workforce, Katsina Beat reports.

Hon. Jobe made this disclosure while making remarks during an event organized by a Non Governmental organization at the Old Government House recently.

“Half of what we receive every month as allocation is used to settle salary and pension of retired workers. Salary and pension gulp half of everything we get in a month.”

The commissioner also added that the total amount of what the state ends up with in its account every month is a “little over six Billion Naira” realise from the state internally generated revenue and federal allocation.

Jobe said: “We spend three Billion Naira to pay salary and pension. Our work force is 32,000, when you combine that figure with those collecting pension and the running cost of ministries, you’ll see that half of the money is gone”.

He noted that the state population has been rising, noting that the state is adjudged to have ten million people now.

Jobe explained further that “We are not even counting of securing lives and properties of the people, which we all know costs a lot of money.

“School feeding is also another issue, chemicals are also purchased for instance and given to the Ministry of Water for maintenance of equipment. Fueling of generating sets in our hospitals across the state is also an issue.

“There are so many things to spend on. But this administration has done well. I tell you that all the projects we’ve so far undertaken where done with the little money left after payment of salary and pension.”
