Katsina state government has assured that the problem of water shortage within Katsina and its environ will be a history from the middle of this year.

The state deputy governor Alhaji Mannir Yakubu FNIQS gave the assurance when he led members of the katsina state bureau of public procurement to inspect some water fercilities in Katsina metropolis and ajiwa water works.

Places visited by the Deputy Governor and others members are kofar kaura booster station, Rafindadi domestic water tank and concrete elevated reservoir tank situated at katsina Dutsin-ma road.

Others places include industrial water tank near Katsina Steel Rolling Mills and Ajiwa water work at Ajiwa town.

At kofar kaura booster station the Deputy Governor and others members inspected a 800-kva generating set which was procured and installed at the cost of =N=68,403,203.55k

While briefing the Deputy Governor on the procurement and installation of water pumps and others fercilities at the booster station and reservoirs, the Commissioner for water resources Alh Musa Adamu Funtua said the project was initially awarded at the cost =N=559,003,753.95k and it was later reviewed to =N=636,597.415 due to the rising cost of the equipment.

At ajiwa water works, Alh Musa Adamu Funtua revealed that the procurement and installation of first and second 2100kva generators and construction of generator rooms was awarded at the initial cost of =N=283,596,720.73k and it was later reviewed to =N=343,896,498.98k to each.

Speaking durin the visit, the State Deputy Governor who is also the Chairman Katsina State Bureau of Public Procurement said the Federal Government had already spent about 12billion naira for the completion of zobe water project.

Alh Mannir Yakubu explained that the current water projects in the state is to connect the zobe water source and intergrated it into the State water supply system for the benefit of people in the State.

While expressing satisfaction over the quality of the work Alh Mannir Yakubu charged the contracting to ensure that the a waiting pumping machine to be installed at Rafindadi water tank and the one along Dutsin-ma road and near Katsina Steel Rolling Mills have arrived as at when due.

The contractor handling the project Alhaji Salisu Mamman Continental who called for more support from the government towards completing the project, assured that the project well be completed within the stipulated time.

Alhaji Salisu Mamman therefore urged people in the state to acknowledge and appreciate the multi-million Naira project being executed by the Masari led administration to improve their wellbeing.
