Katsina gov’t, NYCN ELCO trade words over state congress
The Katsina State government and the Electoral Committee of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Katsina State Chapter are currently exchanging words over the committee’s plan topic organize a congress for the council in the state.
Katsina Post learned that the Electoral Committee Chairman, Comrade Lukman Kankia had earlier wrote to the Executive Governor of Katsina State a letter dated 16th of September, 2020 requesting for a courtesy visit to intimate him about their activities.
A copy of the letter seen by Katsina Post indicated that the Governor treated it the next day on the 17th of September, 2020 and referred it to his Chief of Staff.
But trouble started when the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alhaji Muntari Lawal, in a letter dated 28th September, 2020 wrote to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Development notifying him that Comrade Lukman Kankia led group isn’t actually a faction from the caretaker group recognized by the state government and that the government will work with them.
Furthermore, on the 23rd of October, 2020, the Katsina State government through the Department of Youth Development wrote to the Chairman Electoral Committee of the NYCN notifying him of the government stance on the issue.
But shortly after that, the ELCO led by Comrade Lukman Kankia issued a statement disregarding the Katsina State government’s stance insisting that the congress will hold.
The Katsina State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN has been without elected executive officials for quite some time now.
