The Katsina State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Messrs Contec Global Agro Limited for the resuscitation and full utilization of the State owned NEEMPRO factory based in Katsina.

The MoU was signed in a brief ceremony held at the conference hall of the State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism.

Honourable Commissioner in charge of the Ministry, Mukhtar G. Abdulkadir who signed on behalf of the State Government, said that this process is in line with the Restoration Agenda of the Masari administration.

Adding that it is also in fulfillment of the administration’s pledge and commitment of resuscitating all moribund industries in the state so as to create more job opportunities and also to add impetus to the Government’s drive of diversifying the revenue base of the State.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Contec Global Agro Limited Mr Thomas Chackunkal stated that they were encouraged by the persistent determination and commitment of the Katsina State government in seeing to the resuscitation of the factory.

Mr Thomas Chackunkal also expressed a special gratitude and big thank you to Ibrahim Zakari, the Honorary Special Adviser on investment and International Relations for personally bringing them to Katsina state to Invest in order to create employment to the youths.

While thanking the State Government for finding them worthy of this task, he expressed their own commitment in fulfilling their own part of the agreement, adding that within no time, they will ensure the full utilization of all segments of the factory.

Mr Chackunkal said they are ready to take care of all the Neem trees in the state, stating further that they will introduce a cluster and value chain program in which Neem tree growers will be identified and supported with all necessary inputs with the assurance of buying all the seeds they will grow.

He also proposed to the state government through the Honourable Commissioner to allow them to establish a biofertiliser factory in the state as this will bring succor to farmers in the state and beyond. It will also generate more revenue and employment for the state.

It will be recalled that the factory was established by the Late Umaru Musa Yar’adua’s administration and commissioned by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2007.
