N340m Dangote grant: Disbursement C’ttee submit report to Katsina gov’t, admits extortion by politicians, traditional leaders
The Committee on the selection of beneficiaries of Aliko Dangote Foundation micro grant empowerment programme and disbursement of the grant to the beneficiaries in the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State have submitted their report to His Excellency, Deputy Governor of Katsina State, QS Mannir Yakubu.
The Committee also noted with dismay, the involvement of some politicians, traditional leaders and some stakeholders in extortion of the beneficiaries saying that immediate steps must be taken to prevent future occurrence in subsequent grants or anything related to disbursement of cash or commodities to less privilege people.
While receiving the committee’s report, Mannir Yakubu commended the committee for a proper planning and arrangements for the disbursement of the grant to deserving women across the state.
He also added that Dangote Micro Grant Empowerment Program has impacted positively on the lives of the beneficiaries and created wealth.
The Deputy Governor added that the benefited women that received Ten Thousand Naira each have boosted their Micro businesses at their respective areas.
Alh Mannir Yakubu urged the Director General of Katsira Investment Promotion Agency to continue monitoring the beneficiaries to ensure that the gesture has been judiciously utilized.
Earlier in his remarks, the Director General Katsina Investment Promotion Agency Alhaji Ibrahim Tukur Jikamshi who is a co opted member of the committee, commended the committee members for their efforts to ensure success in the discharge of their statutory responsibilities.
Alhaji Ibrahim promised to continue monitoring the activities of the beneficiaries to ensure the gesture has been utilized.
He therefore saluted the Aliko Dangote Foundation for granting the Sum of Three Hundred and Forty Million Naira to the less privileged woman in the State under the program.
The Director General also acknowledge the efforts of Governor Masari led administration for initiating various Empowerments programme in the State aimed at improving the livelihood of the electorates.
Other Empowerment program initiated by the Governor Masari led administration include S- Power that cost the State government over Two Billion Naira annually under State Universal Basic Education Board and Two Billion Naira for MSME Fund under KASEED.
The Chairperson of the Committee for the selection of beneficiaries Hajiya Rayyanatu Lawal said the report contained all the arrangements made by the committee from the selection of beneficiaries to the disbursement.
The Permanent Secretary added that the committee recommended for the State Government to write an Appreciation Letter to Aliko Dangote Foundation for the noble gesture.
