The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Katsina chapter has elected Dr. Abubakar Dahiru as new Chairman of the Association.
Dr. Abubakar was declared winner after returning unopposed with 285 votes.
He is an indegene of Katsina state, hailed from the Department of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.

Dear Katsina State Doctors,
I am *Dr. Abubakar Dahiru, MNIM* and I hail from the Department of Anatomic and Molecular Pathology, Federal Medical Centre, Katsina.
After wide consultations with stakeholders and affiliates of the Nigerian Medical Association, Katsina State Branch, I would like to present myself for the office of the Chairman of our dear association for the next two years.
I believe, with the experience that I have, and the support of other members of the SOC and the teaming congress, we will make NMA Katsina even greater.
Below, are my plans for Katsina State doctors:
1. *Welfare* of members will be my top priority when given the mandate
a. Foster relationships amongst members and their families through organizing social events such as ‘kiddies day’, and other social and sporting gatherings
b. Advocacy for renovation of doctors’ call duty rooms, accommodations and common rooms across all hospitals in the state
c. Land acquisition and housing schemes
d. Emergency soft loans for members
e. Special welfare packages for defined sick and deceased members
f. Special attention to doctors’ remunerations across the federal, state and local government hospitals
a. An all-encompassing and all-inclusive leadership where all members will be carried along
b. Effective representation at both local and national levels
c. Continuous engagements with all affiliates of NMA
d. Public health and other relevant programmes that will further uplift the image of the association
e. Mentoring of young doctors in both unionism and partisan politics
f. Advocacy on residency training in the state
g. Advocacy for a better health budget in the state
h. A comprehensive database of members and effective information dissemination
i. NMA Katsina newsletter
j. Formulation of NMA Katsina rapid response team to help in emergency situations across the state
k. Advocacy on improving the working conditions of members
3. *Career Development/Progression*
a. Career guidance to house officers and other young doctors on various ways of progression in the medical profession
b. Medical seminars
c. Leadership and administrative seminars/courses
d. Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
e. Career guidance to secondary schools within the state to encourage the students choose a career in medicine
f. Inter-secondary school quiz competition (in honour of the first medical doctor from Katsina State)
g. We will ensure that promotions, advancements and contract gratuities are effected as and when due
a. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to tackle medical quackery in the state
b. Strengthen unity and industrial harmony between doctors and other health workers
c. Foster relationship with security agencies across the state
d. Medical outreaches
Partner with governmental and non-governmental agencies/organizations in improving healthcare across the state
e. Humanitarian aid to disadvantaged areas within the state i.e. orphanages, prisons etc.
