Katsina gov’t upturns 1976 LG reforms, to constitute village security c’ttees
Governor Aminu Bello Masari has lamented that the 1976 local government reforms that usurp the functions of traditional rulers has led to the collapse of village security committees.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was speaking during the flag off of Nigerian Army Super camp in Faskari.
The Governor however assured that the present APC administration will make concerted efforts to revive the village security committees for intelligence gathering through the traditional rulers in the 361 political wards in the state.
Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that the state government will go through archive to reconstitute the committees to ensure that security is restored at the grassroots.
He acknowledged the effort of the Nigerian Army for restoring some level of normalcy in the ongoing fight against banditry in the state.
He however maintained that the fight is not yet over , stressing that more effort had to be made to address the insecurity challenges once and for all.
The Governor appreciated the activities of the military in the super camp with regards to ongoing fight against banditry to restore peace in katsina state and other states in the North West zone.
In a remarks, the General officer commanding the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Arigbanzo commended Governor Aminu Bello Masari for the synergy with the military and other security agencies to fight against banditry in the state.
He described the ongoing efforts to revive village security committees as a good approach for the success against banditry.
He also acknowledged the support to the Nigerian Army by the katsina state government, which had been helping the military to discharge its constitutional mandate.
The Governor accompanied by the Deputy Governor Quantity Surveyor Mannir Yakubu, the secretary to government of katsina state, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa and Special Adviser on security Alhaji Ibrahim katsina were earlier taken round to inspect various sections of the super camp in Faskari.
