TO FIGHT INSURGENCY, WE MUST BE DELIBERATE: NORTHERN LEADERS SPEAKING AT THE MAIDEN UMARU SHINKAFI INTELLIGENCE AND SECURITY SUMMIT (USISS)

In honor of the late Marafan Sokoto – Umaru Shinkafi, the Maiden Shinkafi Intelligence & Security Summit (USISS) enlivens the legacy of a man best remembered for his pioneering role in the creation of the National Security Organisation (NSO). It was a moment for all to be reinvigorated with the values that inspired Umaru Shinkafi.

The Maiden Shinkafi Intelligence & Security Summit took place virtually on the 23rd of July 2020, it was a relentless engagement with a deep commitment to the security of northern Nigeria and solidarity across Northern leaders in different locations. With a profound theme Insurgency, Banditry and Kidnapping: A Multifaceted Approach, the summit awakened the overarching objective of the Umaru Shinkafi Legacy Foundation.

The panelists at the summit used to the opportunity to share the vision for a better future for all. The opening remarks served by H.E Mahmud Aliyu Shinkafi, former Governor of Zamfara State, followed by six panelists: H.E. Bello Mohammed Mutawalle Governor of Zamfara State, H.E Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Governor of Sokoto State H.E Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, Governor of Kebbi State; H.E Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, former Governor of Zamfara State, Mrs. Farida Waziri former executive chairperson EFCC, Bishop Mathew Hassan Kukah Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mr. A. S. Adeleke Commandant of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS) Mr. Hakeem Abiola Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) and Dr. Gani Adeniran, a security expert.

Dignitaries from all over Nigeria sought to take action and inspire change in the fight against insurgency. In the virtual audience were: His Eminence Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar the Royal Father of the Day, (Represented by His Royal Highness the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar. Ms Gill Atkinson British Deputy High Commissioner, Oliver Stope UNODC County Head, Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau, Kadaria Ahmed, Yarima Abdullahi, Muhammad Bello SA Media to Sokoto State, Mr Samuel Aruwan Commissioner for Internal Affairs Kaduna State (Representing Governor El Rufai), Alhaji Buba Galadima, Moh’d Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Ajibola Afonja (Representing Prince Afonja), Dr. Gani Adeniran, Alhaji Hassan Marafa Magajin Garin Sokoto state, Rt Hon Dimeji Bankole.

Expressions of appreciations were served by Her Excellency Dr. Zainab Shinkafi Bagudu, First Lady of Kebbi State on behalf of the Umaru Shinkafi Legacy Foundation.
