2023 elections: Gov Masari reads riot act to Katsina APC officials
Governor Aminu Bello Masari has directed that officials of the All Progressive Congress-APC canvassing for political Aspirants to positions in forthcoming 2023 general elections should be made to lose current leadership positions in the party.
Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari was speaking during a party meeting held at people’s square, Katsina.
The Governor reminded such people canvassing for support to will be aspirants that the current APC administration is barely one year old in the second tenure in office.
He therefore restated that politicking at this period will only derail the administration in fulfilling pledges made to the electorate in the 2019 general elections.
Alhaji Aminu Masari had earlier told participants at the meeting that the forum was convened to brief them on the recent dissolution of the national working committee-NWC of the party done by the national leader of the party, president Muhammad Buhari.
He said that the meeting was meant to inform the state leadership of the party on the directive that all litigations and court cases should be withdrawn within fourteen days.
This he said was to give the interim management committee being headed by Yobe state Governor the opportunity and peace to conduct a mini convention to fill in vacancies of those that lost offices as a result of the dissolution of the central working committee at the national headquarters of the party.
From reports, Governor Aminu Masari said the proceedings of the meeting, there is no single case in any court within Katsina state or even outside the state that APC is undergoing.
Despite all that, he said advise and directives have been given to local government chairmen to also convene meetings at local government levels to brief members on the current situation of the party at national level.
The Governor expressed the need for unity among party members and the role expected of each of the leadership of the party in the state.
With regards to issue of security, Alhaji Aminu Masari explained that security is very important that could not be left in the hands of security chiefs alone.
He emphasized the need for all to be involved because the people of katsina state are victims of banditry, kidnappings and Rape as well as other criminal tendencies in the society.
The Governor called for vigilance especially by leaders of the party that leaves in the rural communities.
He reminded them that each and everyone of them has an address, belong to a village and communities, adding that they have parents to protect too.
The Governor observed that it was the responsibility to inform security agencies of suspicious characters or suspicious movements.
He said they should not be part of the people misinforming security agencies and as well stop informing bandits about movement of security forces , adding that they should stop informing kidnappers and Rapists about potential targets.
Alhaji Aminu Masari reasserted that the military and the police could not do it alone, stressing that they don’t have the numbers, neither do they have all the equipment required to complete the fight alone.
But the political leadership and other community members, he said have all that it takes to inform and support the fight against insecurity.
He expressed the hope that people will be responsible and will take charge to support the current efforts to end insecurity.
He said that people should not take up arms as being done by ‘Yan-Sakai , adding that such attitudes are not allowed and approved by the government.
He however noted that members of the vigilant groups are working with the military and the police at Divisional headquarters in fishing out from the hideouts of bandits and to serve as informants of the security agencies.
In a welcome address, the state chairman of APC, Alhaji Shitu S. Shitu the forum would enable members to interrelate with each other.
He said that the meeting was meant to inform the leadership at local government and ward levels about the recent dissolution of the central working committee and the setting up of caretaker committee under Yobe state Governor.
Alhaji Shitu said the meeting was meant to affirm solidarity with Governor Aminu Bello Masari, whom he said had exhibited good leadership qualities since inception of the APC administration in the state about 5 years ago.
The state chairman of the party explained that the Governor had demonstrated such qualities when he prevented a complete change of leadership of the party from ward to state level after their first tenure has ended.
Alhaji Shitu said the party leadership therefore had resolved to extend appreciation to Governor Aminu Bello Masari for holding the party together in the state.
Others who spoke during the meeting include the vice chairman of the party in katsina zone, Alhaji Mamman Yaro Batsari, that of Daura zone, Alhaji Usman OC and Funtua vice chairman of APC Alhaji Bala Abu Musawa as well as the state woman leader, Hajiya Safiya Daura.
