A crash on the Katsina to Batsari Expressway in Katsina State claimed the lives of three persons, while nine others who sustained varying degrees of injury.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred around 9 pm on Friday at the Bakiyawa community.
Punch gathered that the crash involved a Honda Accord car, a tricycle, and a motorcycle.
The driver of the car was alleged to be on top speed and attempted to overtake other vehicles when he rammed into the tricycle and the motorcycle.
The identities of the deceased could not be ascertained as of press time.
When contacted, the state Commander of the Federal Roads Safety Corps, Ali Tanimu, confirmed the crash and attributed it to excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
He said the corpses of the deceased and the injured victims were moved to the General Hospital, Katsina.
“Our preliminary investigation showed that the accident occurred as a result of wrongful overtaking. Three people died and nine others sustained injuries. The dead and the injured were moved to the Katsina General Hospital,” Tanimu stated.
