Mahdi’s allegations: Katsina gov’t denies any wrong doing with security funds
The secretary to government of Katsina state, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa has debunked allegations of financial misappropriations leveled against government on security matters in the State.
Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa was responding to a video made by one Mahadi Shehu that went viral on social media and broadcast on a private Radio station in Kaduna.
The secretary to government explained that except for security being provided to Wind Mill project in Lambar Rimi, which the amount was completely far from what Mahadi quoted.
He revealed that the security posted at lambar Rimi received payments to the tune of over 800,000 against the quoted figure of six million Naira right from inception of the project, adding that now that the contractor had returned to site, the state government had stopped paying security guards at the project site.
The other aspect that was quoted wrongly, he said was the purchase of cellular phone for members of the state executive council.
Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said that the 3310 were purchased at over 2.4 million Naira as against the 45 million Naira stated by Mahadi Shehu.
The secretary to government of katsina state who was in company of the state commissioner of works and that of Youth Development, Alhaji Muhammad Mahmoud Kanti and Engineer Tasi’u Dahiru Dandagoro said all the other allegations were pure lies and a pigment of the imagination of the publisher of the allegations.
In the five years of the administration of Governor Aminu Bello Masari, he said only 6.4 billion Naira were contributed to the Escrew Account from the state government and 34 local governments in the state.
The account, he said was initiated by the administration of Late Alhaji Umar Musa Yar’adua for the purpose of contributing to enhancing security in the state, adding that the administration of Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema maintained the account, which was inherited by the present APC administration in the state.
He therefore expressed total shock as to the figure of over 40 billion Naira quoted by Mahadi Shehu in his video.
He challenged anybody or group of people wishing to verify the accounts of the security to visit his office and confirm.
According to him, he had been surmoned by the ICPC based on a petition from chairman of National conscience Party-NCP in katsina and was cleared of any wrong doing on security.
Similarly, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said he was summoned at the EFCC and took papers for verification and was again cleared of any misappropriations leveled against him in the past.
Answering questions from newsmen during the press conference, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said that the government will review the allegations again and may approach the courts of law for a legal action.
Both the two commissioners that spoke during the press conference denied being credited with funds as contained in the allegations.
Engineer Tasi’u Dahiru Dandagoro particularly showed statement of account from his banker and insisted that he is going to sue Mahadi Shehu for the allegations, which he said had tarnished the name he so far made in the state.
Also addressing a question posed by a journalist, Dr Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa said that senator Bello Mandiya, whose Account Number was also mentioned in the allegations could not make it to the press conference in katsina but assured that he will address the press in Abuja to clear himself of any wrong doing.
