Four accused persons have been arraigned before a Katsina state High Court by the Department for State Service DSS on six count charges bordering on fraud and forgery, Radio Nigeria reports.
Muhammad Sani Yahaya, Abdullah Salisu, Aliyu Lawa, and Usman D. Faruq are accused of receiving more than N4million to release two kidnap suspects from the Katsina Central Correctional Center.
The charge sheet presented to the High Court by the DSS indicated that the 4 men forged court documents that led to the release of one Isiyaku Lawal and Abubakar Ali of Kankara local government area, who were charged with kidnapping and belonging to a gang of thieves.
They are accused of committing offences that are contrary to Sections 245, Section 341, section 148, Section 120 sub section 1, and 86 Section of the panel court law of katsina state Number 3. 2019.
They pleaded not guilty to all the charges and the case was adjourned to July 27, 2020 for commencement of hearing on substantive matters.
However, due to the COVID 19, presiding Judge, Justice Abbass Bawale ruled that the four accused are to remain in the custody of the Department for State Service.
The court is expected to sit on the 9th and 13th for ruling on bail application in respect of the 4th Respondent, Usman D. Faruq.
