Katsina gov’t commends Lab Scientist’s efforts on fight against COVID-19
Katsina Government acknowledged the importance of Medical Laboratory Scientists towards fighting COVID-19
The Katsina State government has acknowledged the importance of Medical Laboratory Scientists and others laboratory personnel towards curtailing the COVID-19 viral infection.
The acknowledgement was made by the Executive Secretary, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Shamsuddeen Yahaya during the training of laboratory professionals from the 11 LGAs to Katsina central Senatorial zone on Covid-19 sample collection and management which held today at General Hospital, Katsina.
Dr Shamsuddeen, while delivering an opening remarks during the training organized by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Katsina State Branch, said the importance of laboratory professionals can not be over emphasized.
“For a successful management of the viral infection, many pillars must come into play and medical laboratory services are part of them because they are the ones who collect the samples, manages them, processes them and produces results”, Dr Shamsuddeen said.
Also, while speaking, the General Manager, Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Dr abduljalil Umar urged the participants of the training to take it serious and pay attention to what they will learn.
He also commended the foresight of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria in Katsina State for organizing the training stressing that it is very timely.
Dr Abduljalil also assured the participants that they will be deployed in sample collection of any suspected case within their localities.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Association, Scientist Mannir Aliyu said the main aim of the training is to compliment government efforts towards curtailing the COVID-19 pandemic in the State.
Mannir Aliyu further stated that the association decided to train at least one person in each of the 34 LGAs of Katsina State on Covid-19 sample collection and management so that in any eventuality, the trained personnel will be reached out by the Katsina State Emergency Response Committee against COVID-19 to collect the sample anywhere in the state.
He also said that all the trained personnel will step down the training to their colleagues at their place of work.
After the training, buckets for hand washing and hand sanitizers were distributed to participants from comprehensive health centers.
