COVID-19: Gov Masari rules out payment of extra allowances to health workers
The Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari hinted that the state government is not going to pay extra allowances to health care workers in the state during this COVID-19 pandemic period.
Instead, the Governor said the state government will ensure the availability of working tools and personal protective equipment (PPEs) to the health workers and health care centers across the state.
The Governor made this known during a press conference at his office on Monday.
“The issue is not about money, because even if we give them (health care workers) N1m, it will be unfair to expose them to COVID-19 patients without adequate protective equipment.
“We received a donation of an ambulance recently and the state government is doing all that is necessary to provide our health care workers and health centers with what they need to work optimally during this trying times”, he said.
Earlier, the State Governor said 14 health workers are among the 35 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the state.
Federal government as well as Lagos and Kaduna States, however, have rolled out some extra allowances and insurance to paid to their health care workers the front line.
