Lockdown: Katsina gov’t constitutes mobile courts to jail, fine defaulters

The Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, has constituted two mobile courts to try defaulters as the government takes steps to enforce the lockdown order over the COVID-19 pandemic, Daily Trust reports.

A statement by the Chief Registrar, Kabir Shuaibu, said the mobile courts become necessary following the directives of the state Governor, Aminu Masari, for a lockdown of Katsina Local Government Area.

Meanwhile, Governor Masari has extended the lockdown to include the neighbouring Batagarawa council area in view of its closeness to the state capital.

He said the total lockdown would take effect from today, adding that “separating Katsina from Batagarawa would not be easy considering the proximity of the two areas.”

Speaking when he received the Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), along with the country representative of the World Health Organisation (WHO) on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Katsina, Masari lamented the absence of a test laboratory in the state which was making the fight against the pandemic tedious.
