COVID-19: NMA Katsina Chapter donates PPE’s to all General Hospitals in Katsina


The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Katsina state chapter has donated two sets of Personal Protective Equipment to all General Hospitals in Katsina state as part of its effort to support COVID-19 outbreak response in the state.

The donation was done after an intensive training and enlightenment campaign on COVID-19 and the proper use of the PPE’s with the participation of health workers in all the areas visited.

Katsina Post learnt that the programme begins with Funtua General Hospital and has now covered all the health facilities in the 34 LG’s.

While presenting the equipment to the Managing Directors of all the Hospitals visited on behalf of the Association, the NMA Chairman, Dr. Muhammad Nafi’u Abdul-aziz said “We are moved to help doctors and medical staff at risk of exposure to COVID-19 by donating personal protective equipment, which is important in this state of emergency,”

According to him, the donation comes at a time when hospitals across the country are contending with a shortage of such equipment, which is putting health workers at risk of contracting the fast-spreading coronavirus.

Mr. Nafiu revealed that Health workers must protect themselves first hence the need to adopt proper preventive measures against contracting the deadly disease.

The Katsina State has now recorded a total number of twelve case cases of COVID-19.

This tally is gotten when the three new cases confirmed on Sunday are added to the nine cases already recorded in the State earlier.

Katsina Post has earlier reported that the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Rt Hon Aminu Bello Masari has ordered for the total lockdown of Katsina Local Government Area of Katsina State from 7:00am on Tuesday.

The Governor made this known during an emergency press briefing at Government House moment ago.

According to the Governor, the decision for the lockdown became necessary after the confirmation of two new cases of COVID-19 in the metropolis.
