Secretary to the Government of Katsina State (SGS), Dr. Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa has appealed to people of the state to stop paying ransom to kidnappers.

Dr Mustapha Inuwa revealed this while receiving rescued kidnapped victims along Kankara Road.

The two girls released are among the 19 passengers who were kidnapped along Kankara road last month while traveling to Katsina from Niger state on commercial vehicle.

The rescued victims

Katsina Post had earlier reports that 16 out of 19 victims were earlier rescued without paying ransom.

According to him, the victims were rescued by a combined security and repented bandits without payment of ransom.

He said paying ransom is encouraging bandits to carry out their illegal activities.

Inuwa said although families of kidnap victims are paying ransom to secure their release, but ransom is encouraging banditry.

He said the state government is working with security agents to end the problem of banditry in the state.

“We are working in collaboration with security and repentant bandits to end kidnapping in the state,” he explained.

Inuwa commended security and repentant bandits for rescuing the victims.
