2 high-profile informants for kidnappers killed in Katsina
Two persons identified as Ibrahim Maye and Bishir Mai Laya, alleged to be high-profile informants for kidnappers and bandits in Katsina have been killed, Daily Trust reports.
The duo from Hayin Gada area in Dutsinma Local Government Area of the state were killed over the weekend in the process of passing information to kidnappers around Bakin Kasuwa Gora forest in Safana Local Government Area.
Sources said upon arriving at the location, they met one alleged informant called ‘Amale’, but unknown to them he had abandoned the trade and taken up the government’s amnesty programme.
However, he managed to mislead them into believing that he was still involved in the kidnap business by handing over names of three persons and their pictures for a kidnap-for-ransom operation.
The names were those of a businessman, Abu farar Waina, and two women who were in reality not available for the kidnap operation.
It was further discovered that the plot resulted in the arrest of the two famous informants who confessed to be behind the kidnapping of a Customs Officer, Nasiru and twin brothers at Gizagawa village.
Having mentioned names of other informants, the duo were later killed and their corpses sent back to another repentant bandit ‘Kachalla’ who handed their corpse to security personnel.
Already, sources at the Divisional Police Office said a manhunt for seven others who were said to have been part of the larger informants circle around Dustinma town and neighbouring Kagara villages has commenced.
However, when contacted, spokesman of the State Police Command, SP Gambo Isah promised to make further inquiries on the matter.
Daily Trust reports that informants’ constitute a bottleneck in the ongoing fight against kidnapping and banditry in the state. They reside in communities passing vital information to kidnappers in return for some windfall from the proceeds.
